These are the signs you need to replace your vacuum

Is it time to replace and upgrade your vacuum? Or does it just need to be deep cleaned? Some times it’s hard to tell.   Read on… we’re here to help.

Vacuum cleaners don't last forever.

Yep, thats right, at some point, you have to admit that it’s time to sit it on the curb and spring for a new one.

But how do you know when it’s time to replace your vacuum? How long does a  vacuum actually last?  Here’s what you need to know about replacing your old vacuum cleaner.

First, How long should you expect a vacuum cleaner to last?

On average, According to Consumer Reports, vacuum cleaners last a median of eight years.  But the lifespan varies wildly by not only brand but your own personal use.  This should be expected.   If you have a small one-bedroom apartment to yourself, you won’t use your vacuum nearly as much as a family of five with two pets in a 3,000-square-foot home.

So if your vacuum is past eight years old and has seen a lot of use, it’s probably time to make that  upgrade.

So is it time to replace?

If you find that your vacuum cleaner isn’t picking up dirt like it should, say the suction just isn’t where it was when it was new, it’s easy to jump to the conclusion that it’s time for a new one. However, if your vacuum is several years old and you haven’t use it that much, you may just need to give it a quick checkup.

There’s a solid chance you have a clog or it just needs a replacement part.

Spend some time troubleshooting the problem.  You’ll save some bucks and help save the planet at the same time.   (Those land fill’s aren’t getting any smaller)

Check these things first

  • Check to be sure the hoses aren’t clogged.
  • Check the filter and clean or replace.  A clogged filter will restrict the air flow and then you lose suction to pick up dust and dirt.  The change in filter might be all your vacuum needs.
  • By the way, your vacuum should be cleaned every so often.  It’s easy to forget so when you check the filter, if it’s dirty, there’s a chance the rest of the vacuum needs a solid scrubbing, too. .
  • Now check the drive belt.  This is important.  The drive belts can stretch out, dry rot or come off track. Replacing these belts is a cheap and easy fix that could make your vacuum work like new.
Vacuums for Home cleaning

Time for an upgrade.

If none of the discussed remedies help your vacuum.  Well, then, it may be time to replace and upgrade this most important member of your home.  Vacuum cleaners have changed a lot over the years and a new one can change your life in a number of ways.

Vacuum cleaners are much lighter and more nimble than the vacuums your parents had. They can now bend around corners and fit under furniture easier, and some of the more pricier brands are battery-operated so you won’t have to deal with tripping over the cord, pretty cool!

Some of the newer brands do a much better job of filtering the air and removing allergens , pollen and pet dander for the air.  Your hose will be cleaner, fresher and you’ll have less dust on all your surfaces.   Now that we’ve put it this way, it just may be time for an upgrade after-all.   Your house cleaning service will be glad you made the investment.
